Jesus shows us the way through the journey
by Sister Lynne Marie Simonich
The First Sunday of Lent takes us with Jesus into the desert. After 40 days of fasting, evil tries to take hold of Jesus, tempting him with something to eat, with wealth, and with power. The devil even quotes Scripture to entice Jesus to give in.
After 40 days of heat during the day, cold at night, no food, and no one to talk to, Jesus remained strong. According to St. Luke, he went into the desert after his baptism – after he was “filled with the Holy Spirit”. Was it the Holy Spirit who kept Jesus strong?
As we enter into this season of Lent, we are challenged to pray, fast, and give alms. We will walk with Jesus into the desert. We will travel with him to the Mountain of the Transfiguration. We will be with him, listen to his words, see his miracles and make the final journey with him to Calvary.
Reflection question:
- What temptations do we face in life that can draw us away from God?
- How will we pray, fast, and give alms during this Lenten Season?
Dear Good Sister,
I liked your Reflection, especially your "journey" at the end.
Lent is a fascinating time of the Church year. All of a sudden, our Crowds in our big Church are very good. With Russia and the Pandemic, I think they've found some pretty good reasons to Pray. Me Too!!!
Bless you & my Prayers to all the Good Sisters,
Father Bill Jacobs
