Choosing Jesus as the center of one's life is a radical 'yes'
“Follow me,” says Jesus in Sunday’s Gospel. Following Jesus is deeper, richer and more challenging than the two words might indicate.
- Have I or can I respond radically to God’s call, exemplified in the First Reading when Elisha slaughters his herd of oxen and feeds God’s people so he is free to assist Elijah in God’s work?
- Do I understand the difference between God’s freedom and earthly freedom? Do I live in the Spirit of loving my neighbors and enemies or do I “bite” and “devour” as described in the Second Reading?
- Can I practice what Jesus teaches in the Gospel? Instead of responding to hate with hate, can I do as Jesus does: understand, forgive and move on.
What step can I make to more closely follow Jesus today?
