Sunday's readings challenge us to go the extra mile
by Renae Bauer
In writing about grace, Don Schwager states: “What makes Christianity distinct from any other religion? It is grace -- treating others, not as they deserve, but as God wishes them to be treated -- with loving kindness and mercy.”
As I plan for Lent -- a time to pray to, fast for and give back to God -- I find in Sunday’s readings a plethora of guidance for growing in grace:
- We belong to God. Do I act as though I believe this about myself and others?
- We are to grow in holiness. This is a lifelong journey. Have I become lax?
- To love my neighbor and enemy is to cast aside hate, revenge and grudges. Am I as loving to the people I disagree with as those I agree with?
Well done. Thank you.
