Jesus’ Kingdom transcends earthly rule
by Sister Mary Kabat
In reading the First Scripture of Sunday's feast from the Book of Daniel 7:13-14, my mind was filled with the awesome of images of the Son of Man, the Ancient One and all peoples gathered around them as the Son receives dominion, glory and kingship.
This contrasts greatly with the Gospel passage from John 18:33b-37 with the beaten and bloodied Jesus standing before Pilate as Pilate questions Jesus in a sarcastic, demeaning way. Asking if Jesus is the “King of the Jews” so misses the mark of the fullness he truly is.
Jesus – whose kingdom is not of the world we know.
Jesus – who came to testify to and to speak the truth.
Jesus – who invites us to live in and proclaim his kingdom.
"Almighty God, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son,
the King of the universe, we pray that the whole creation may render
our majesty service and ceaselessly proclaim your praise."
