Sunday's widows demonstrate spirits of generosity and sacrifice
by Sister Carolyn Zahringer
The readings speak to us of women trusting in the Lord for assistance. The responsorial psalm refrain invites each of us to “Praise the Lord, my soul!”
The Gospel shares the story of the widow’s mite. Jesus points out that “she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.” Give and it shall be given to you.
How do the pressures of our day-to-day living affect our lived faith?
What do both women’s trust in God invite us to?
Both women show that true giving comes from the heart, not from excess.
So glad to get these reflections. It's hard for me to tie the readings together and so obvious when I read the reflection. "True giving comes from the heart." Beautiful.
