As the worldwide Catholic Church celebrates the "Year of Faith", declared by Pope Benedict XVI, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross in Green Bay are inviting people to check their inboxes.
Each Friday during the "Year of Faith" (Oct. 11, 2012, to Nov. 24, 2013) the Sisters will email ( sign up) a summarized teaching or a practical application based on the "Study Guide of the U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults." The catechism is the book of faith instruction for Catholics.
The Sisters chose this approach since the Holy Father is encouraging all Catholics to deepen their faith by studying the catechism (now 20 years old) and the documents of the Second Vatican Council, which was conducted from Oct. 11, 1962, to Dec. 8, 1965. Since education is part of the Sisters' mission and founding more than 130 years ago, sharing the catechism is a natural fit.
People can subscribe at this link to the free "Year of Faith" writings. Signing up is also available from the Sisters' website home page, www.gbfranciscans.org, by clicking on the "Year of Faith" logo.
Established in 1881, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross further the reign of God by compassionately responding to the needs of the times through education, healing and related ministries. The Sisters are rooted in the Cross, Sacred Word and Eucharist, and they value simplicity, hospitality, and prayer.
