(September 2015) -- Each Fall, our Sisters and Associates gather to celebrate the Entry, Renewal and Sending Forth Service of our Associates. During the service, new members are welcomed and eligible members who choose to renew do so. Then, all 37 Associates are sent forth to live and share Franciscan values.

This year we welcomed Lisa Milligan as our newest Associate and celebrate the renewal of Muriel De Namur, Rheda Jelen, Gerry Miller, Lynn Miller, Claire Reising and Joan Stone.

We asked each new and renewing Associate to tell us a little bit about themselves and the Associate Relationship. We hope you enjoy getting to know them and we invite you to consider becoming an Associate!

Muriel De Namur

Muriel’s family includes her son, Tom, who resides in Algoma, a daughter, Marcie, in Barrington, Ill., and two grandchildren.

Muriel is among the first Associates who entered in 1984.  She and her mother frequently prayed at the Chapel in Robinsonville (now the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help).  During the visits, Muriel struck up a friendship with Sister Ambrose who often was busy cleaning vigil lights in the Shrine Crypt.  Both the peaceful prayer times and friendship led to Muriel’s interest in the Associate Relationship.

Rheda Jelen

Rheda cherishes her family of four adult children.  They all reside in the Green Bay area.   Rheda loves her involvement in the parish.  She is a member of the Parish Council and participates as a member of the Community Life committee and Adult Enrichment committee.

Rheda acknowledges that the first three years of being an Associate has brought her to a greater awareness of God’s presence in her life and seeing God in other people. It has deepened her spiritual life and reinforced that which was already there.

Lynn and Gerry Miller

Lynn and Gerry celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in December 2014.   They have two daughters and one son and are proud of their five grandchildren.  Lynn and Gerry are graduates of Marquette University.

Holy Spirit Parish is graced with Lynn and Gerry’s ministries as Team Leaders of Christ Renews His Parish, catechists, Proclaimers of the Word, and other volunteer work.

For Lynn and Gerry, the Associate relationship has offered learning and bonding opportunities through the GATHERINGs, Dialogue Group occasions, and Community celebrations.

Lisa Milligan

In becoming an Associate, I am looking for a deepening of my spiritual life. I am looking forward to attending the GATHERINGs and Dialogue Groups with the Sisters and Associates. I want to learn and grow with them as much as possible!

I have a supportive husband, George, and two beautiful daughters, Candice and Jessica.  I am a Senior Administrative Assistant at Associated Bank and an accompanist at Resurrection Parish. George and I answered God’s call of moving from Jacksonville, Fla., to Green Bay nine years ago, and have never regretted it!

Claire Reising

Claire finds the Associate Relationship a “guiding light” in her life.  The Associate Relationship keeps her grounded in Christ.  She finds that being with the other Associates gives her support and inspiration.  She values their good example.

Claire’s son, Bobby, resides in
De Pere.  She has one precious granddaughter, Dani, who remains the “Apple of Grandma’s Eye.”

Joan Stone

Joan has been an Associate since 1993.  She has found that the Associate Relationship has brought her much closer to God.  She testifies that “God is so kind to me, strengthens me in my spiritual life.”

Joan’s son, Ray, and his wife, Lorrie, live a few houses away from her in Marinette.  She proudly states that she has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In Joan’s concluding words she says, “I love being with the Associates and Sisters.”
